19 employees each from Seemandhra and Telangana have been booked for their unruly behaviour

• IG suspends security personnel for not preventing the commotion

• Employee leaders urge CS to withdraw cases and suspension order

Hyderabad: Notwithstanding the sloganeering and unruly behaviour of the Seemandhra and Telangana employees at the chamber of Chief Secretary PK Mohanty on Wednesday (January 28), police filed criminal cases against Secretariat employees (38 in all).

Also, the police had to bear the brunt of the ugly incident; as many as 26 of the security personnel were placed under suspension for allowing the two groups to the Chief Secretary’s chamber, where there was a virtual show of the strength between the two sides.

According to reports, the employees from both regions were at loggerheads during a meeting of Secretariat Employees Cooperative Housing Society on the same day. They even resorted to fisticuffs at one stage.

Subsequently Seemandhra employees led by U Murali Krishna met the Chief Secretary and apprised him of the situation and alleged high-handed behaviour of the Telangana employees led by their leader Narender Rao. Irked by this, Telangana employees too rushed to the chamber of the Chief Secretary and tried to present their version.

The hue and cry made by some of the employees had reportedly annoyed the Chief Secretary and other officials. Interestingly, the Chief Secretary was found counselling the Seemandhra employees to change their mindset first and asked them to maintain decorum while they were in Secretariat premises. At one stage, Mohanty even warned them of action if they failed to mend their ways.

Taking a serious note of the unruly behaviour of the employees of both regions, the Chief Secretary called in security officials and directed them to investigate the whole affair. Based on the report, police filed criminal cases against 38 employees -- 19 each from Telangana and Seemandhra region.

The Chief Secretary had also asked the IG -- Special Protection Force to find out the reasons for the failure of police in the Secretariat to avert such incidents at ‘C’ Block. In response to the Chief Secretary’s order, the IG suspended 26 police personnel who were on duty there.

Surprisingly, both the leaders of Seemandra and Telangana met the Chief Secretary on Saturday and requested him to lift the suspension against the police and cases against them. But the Chief Secretary was in no mood to take the incident lightly.

Speaking to The Hans India, Mohanty said that he would give importance to maintaining discipline first. “I have no regional interests here. I would go by the rule book. Because of it, I recommended cases against 38 employees. There was no bias in my act”, he said.
