New Delhi: TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday spent a busy day meeting BJP topbrass L K Advani and Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj. He also called on CPI leader A B Bardhan, RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. While the BJP seemed to be soft-pedalling the Telangana issue, apparently under the TDP influence, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav has already expressed his opposition to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and creation of Telangana.

The BJP leaders were more than happy to welcome the TDP leader and spent time in discussing the issues involved in the Telangana formation. Mulayam Singh Yadav also expressed his solidarity with Chandrababu Naidu in opposing Telangana in Parliament. Naidu said his main purpose of meeting Advani and Sushma Swaraj was to explain to them the nefarious role of the Congress and how the ruling party was pushing for the Telangana State formation purely for political ends. The timing of the division and the political trading of the Congress to merge TRS on the one hand and to benefit the YSRCP on anti-Congress hate campaign in Seemandhra, on the other, have lead to an inevitable conclusion that the Congress party has taken up bifurcation only to get political benefit.

The TDP leader pointed out the infirmities in the process adopted by the Congress. The Bill was defective, as it did not factor in the Constitutional Amendment required on issues like Common Capital and deletion of Article 371-D and Article 371-D of the Constitution.

Naidu also explained to the political leaders how the debate on the Draft Telangana Bill in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly could not be conducted in a dignified and meaningful way. In view of the escalated tempers and ruckus, he said, hardly any discussion could take place in both the Houses of Andhra Pradesh Legislature. Only 86 members in the Assembly and a few members in the Council could express their views and many members were given hardly two or three minutes to express their views.
