New Delhi: Former Union Minister and Congress leader Renuka Chowdary created a flutter at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan here on Saturday, when a high-drama was enacted.
The AP Bhavan became the venue for the protests by both the Seemandhra and Telangana activists. The crowds were equally divided into two distinct camps of Telangana and Seemandhra. With rival slogan-shouting renting the air, the atmosphere was surcharged.
Renuka came to the AP Bhavan to express her support to students from Bhadrachalam, who were sitting on a dharna to protest the move to hand over to Seemandhra the villages that would be submerged under the Polavaram Project.
At that point, some TJAC activists raised slogans against Renuka, calling her a betrayer of the Telangana cause. Provoked, she hit back at them. She pulled back her bangles and charged at the activists. It virtually led to a near-scuffle, creating tension. Soon order was restored.
On another side in the AP Bhavan, the Seemandhra Intellectual Forum staged a protest against the Union Cabinet nod to the AP Reorganisation Bill- 2013, paving the way for the creation of Telangana. Later in the evening, the forum activists turned their ire against Union Textiles Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao and staged a dharna in front of his residence.. They pasted handbills of ‘Save Andhra Pradesh’ on his nameplate.
