Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy directed forest officials to deal strictly with the persons who are causing harm to wild animals in the State forests.

Kiran Reddy, who chaired the ninth meeting of the State Board for Wildlife held at his Camp Office here on Tuesday, said that State Government had already sanctioned an additional force of 3,800 personnel to strengthen the field administration and hands of the Forest Department in protecting the forests and wildlife.

He said the forest staff, up to the rank of Range officers, was being armed with weapons. The revenue department should be asked to provide adequate compensation for the loss of domestic animals and damage to crops by wild animals, he added.

Regarding increase in compensation for the loss of crops, he asked the department to study the proposals properly and take necessary steps.

The meeting discussed various other proposals like increasing the area of Rollapadu Wild Life Sanctuary, fencing of Mrigavani National Park at Chilkur, protecting bird sanctuaries within the Hyderabad city from encroachments and appointment of Field Director for Kawal Tiger Reserve. The Chief Minister suggested the officials to study the proposals made by Anil Kumar Epur, Chairman, WWF, AP State Advisory Board, and take appropriate action.
