Rayachoti (Kadapa): About 50 passengers travelling by a private bus from Kadapa to Bengaluru on Saturday night had a miraculous escape when the vehicle suddenly caught fire near Medarapalli, in Ramapuram mandal. The vehicle was totally burnt, along with the passengers’ luggage. The area resounded with cries and wails of passengers, most of whom got down even before police arrived at the scene.

Ramapuram SI T V Chalapati reached the spot and informed the Lakkireddipally fire station. The fire-fighting staff could not control the blaze as there was no sufficient water in the vehicle. The fire was caused by the bus petrol tank getting stuck in a motorcycle lying on the road after its two riders, Rakesh Reddy and Nagabushan Reddy, got involved in an accident. Slightly injured, they were standing nearby. The bus driver failed to notice the two-wheeler and its leaked petrol. He stopped only after the passengers noticed it and raised an alarm.
