SCR holds trial run of Sec’bad-Wadi electric loco, South Central Railway, Secunderabad-Wadi section. The electrification on Secunderabad-Wadi section was completed in two phases.

Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) on Tuesday commissioned electrification of 161 km-long Lingampalli- Wadi section on Secunderabad-Mumbai route. With this 2,375 km of the 5,810 km have been electrified under SCR. To mark the occasion a passenger train hauled with electric locomotive ran on trial basis from Secunderabad to Wadi. PK Srivastava, General Manager, SCR, SK Mishra, Secunderabad Divisional Railway Manager and other senior officials of the zone and division were part of the General Manager’s Special Train Inspection team.

The electrification on Secunderabad-Wadi section was completed in two phases. Earlier, the 27 km Secunderabad-Lingampalli stretch was electrified as part of the MMTS project. And this electrification project of 161 km (411 track km) was sanctioned in 2006-07 financial year. The project has been executed by the Railway Electrification Unit, Secunderabad, at a cost of around Rs 204 crore. The electric traction on the entire route offers immense scope for improvement of freight traffic, mainly of the movement of commodities – coal, cement and clinker in this sector, said a press release.
