Hyderabad: The talks between the representatives of Anganwadi workers and Chief Secretary P K Mohanty on Monday failed. But, the government decided to convene another meeting to resolve the issue on February 26. The Anganwadi Workers Union has been demanding the government to increase their salaries on par with their counterparts in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Mohanty said that he would discuss the matter with other officials and take a decision soon.

On the other hand, thousands of Anganwadi workers staged a dharna at Indira Park demanding that the government hike their salaries. All the roads leading to Secretariat witnessed traffic jam due to the dharna and a rally by Anganwadi workers. Anganwadi Workers Union state general secretary P Roja said that the government had been paying a meagre Rs 3,500 per month to Anganwadi workers and Rs 1,950 per month to aayas, which was far below the minimum wages.

Anganwadi workers ‘Chalo Hyd’ folied

Medak: Police on Monday arrested anganwadi workers in the district to prevent them from reaching Hyderabad to participate in ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ programme scheduled for the day. Police set up check posts at various places in the district since Sunday evening to detain anganwadi workers.

Police arrested anganwadi workers at Siddipet, Toopran, Gajvel, Dubbaka, Medak, Zaheerabad, Sangareddy, Narsapur and other parts of the district and shifted them to police stations. Anganwadi workers staged a dharna in front of Siddipet police station in protest against the arrests. CITU organised rasta rokos at Sangareddy and Zaheerabad.
