Hyderabad: The Secretariat employees from Seemandhra are opposing the moves for their relocation. They are firm on sharing the Secretariat complex with the employees of the new born State for administrative feasibility.

They want the Central government to retain the secretariat of residuary Andhra Pradesh on the same premises in view of the need for circulation of same files to the officials of both the States as part of the exercise to give the final shape to the two States. Senior officials also reportedly sent a report to the Centre, recommending equally dividing the blocks.

Speaking to The Hans India, Secretariat Seemandhra Employees Forum president U Murali Krishna said that they had fought their level best to stop the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. “But, Centre took political decision and divided the State, ignoring the appeals of employees, students, farmers and workers. BJP extended full support to the UPA, thus facilitating the formation of the new State,” he said,

Referring to the next course of action, he said that they planned to focus on the problems to come in the way of bifurcation.

He said that they were watching the moves of the Centre including the guidelines sought to be laid down for dividing the employees between the two States. First, he said, they would ask the Centre to allot a part of the Secretariat for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh. Murali said that there was a dire need to keep secretariats of both States at one place. “There are eight blocks in the present Secretariat and four of them could be allotted to the residuary State. It would not be difficult to provide the secretariat block of the residuary state with a separate passage.” The Secretariat files are now the property of both the States. Both the governments would require copies of the files, while sorting out key issues especially the assets that would be bone of contention.

He said that shifting the AP Secretariat to other place is not advisable at this juncture. “It is easy to help sort out inter-state issues if the secretariats of two States are at one place,” he observed. “The administrations of both the States should continue at least for a couple of years from the same Secretariat chambers,” he added.
