Tribal sarpanch axed to death by Maoists, Sarpanch of Balapam panchayat, Sindri Karli. Ignoring their pleading, the Maoists took the duo to the nearby Maoist Memorial Pylon after tying their hands.
Visakhapatnam: Maoists of Korukonda Area Committee axed to death the Sarpanch of Balapam panchayat in Chintapalli mandal, Sindri Karli (32), near Rallagedda hamlet, in the wee hours of Tuesday on the charge that he had contested the panchayat elections ignoring their boycott call, and ‘cheated’ tribals. The brutal killing, occurring after a long gap, sent shock waves in the mandal.
A team of about 200 Militia members and Maoists, armed with weapons, went to Rallagedda, Karli’s native place, and entered his house late in the night. They dragged out Karli and his brother Sindri Somaraju.
Ignoring their pleading, the Maoists took the duo to the nearby Maoist Memorial Pylon after tying their hands. They axed Karli to death, after freeing Somaraju with a stern warning. They fled leaving the body in a pool of blood. It was shifted to the government hospital for post- mortem. Inspector K Prasad is investigating the case. The Maoists put up a banner at the spot, justifying the killing. They mentioned that Karli had supported police and encouraged forcible surrenders/arrests of the Militia members.
