P K Mohanty to oversee polls and formation of new State
Hyderabad: Chief Secretary P K Mohanty has been given an extension for four months, and orders to this effect were issued late on Friday. He was due to retire on Friday itself. With this orders, Mohanty would be at the helm of affairs till June 30, which means till the completion of election process and probably till the formation of new state of Telangana.
According to informed sources, Mohanty got extension against his wishes. He had not lobbied hard for extension of his services.
But the government thought it better to continue him in the plum post as he happened to be from outside the State.
Be it I Y R Krishna Rao or I V Subba Rao or any other officer would find it tough, handling things at this hour of transition as they hail from the State, the government reportedly felt. Mohanty will now assist Governor E S L Narasimhan in all key matters since the decks for President’s Rule are cleared.
He already set up a Reorganisation Department at the Secretariat on Friday. Sources also say that the Governor had indicated his preference for him to the Union Home Ministry.
