Hyderabad: Governor E S L Narasimhan on Sunday called upon people to extend their cooperation for smooth conduct of administration as President’s Rule has been promulgated in AP. Addressing his maiden press conference after taking charge as head of the administration of the State, he said the law and order machinery was fully geared up to deal with any challenges. “Utmost priority is being given to the maintenance of normal life as usual, carry out all developmental programmes without any interruption and keep high the confidence of investors in the State,” he informed.

The Governor also extended his best wishes and felicitations to all the citizens at this crucial juncture. He said that during this period of President’s rule, his concern would be to come to terms quickly with all issues in a just manner. “My appeal to all the citizens and stakeholders is to extend fullest cooperation and maintain calm. At a time like this, it is necessary to continue to exhibit maturity, sagacity and wisdom which Telugu people are renowned for,” he added.

Stating that he would direct District Collectors to carry out all the welfare schemes in true spirit, Narasimhan said that health and education would be given priority. He stressed the need to develop medical infrastructure in government hospitals on a par with that in corporate hospitals. The long-pending appointment of Vice-Chancellors for universities would also be done soon to streamline the high education.

Following strong objections raised by the former Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy against rejection of his close associate who was nominated as an MLC, Narasimhan said he will always go by the Constitution in the finalization of names for the MLCs posts. He would be looking into the issue as per the procedure.

“The President has taken over the administration of the State under the Article 356 yesterday. The President further directed that all the functions of the government of AP and all the powers vested in the Governor under the Constitution or under any law in force in state , which have been taken over by him, may be exercised by me under the superintendence, director and control of the President. The President has taken this step among other things with an intention to create a congenial and conducive atmosphere and stable administration,” Narasimhan added.
