Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is learnt to have got the consent of the state unit for an electoral tie-up with TDP in both Telangana region and the residual state of Andhra Pradesh.

Sources in the saffron party said that party official spokesperson Prakash Javadekar who has held detailed discussions with the leaders and presidents of both the state units separately and obtained their views on the tie-up with TDP. He would now put up the proposal before the national leaders for their endorsement. Once it is endorsed, a formal announcement would be made in New Delhi.

Javadekar later met with and intellectuals, especially from Seemandhra region, at a city hotel on Sunday evening. Venkaiah Naidu opened up himself in the almost two-hour speech and spoke about various issues. He explained how he was severely criticised for his statements on bifurcation issue when the last session of the parliament was underway.

Naidu said: “I was not opposed to the division of the state but only voiced my dissent at the manner at which it was carried out.” As a former national party president, he said it was his duty to ensure justice to both regions during the bifurcation. He stated that he spent sleepless nights for four days working on the package for Seemandhra, besides holding discussions with the top brass of the Congress for the same. Naidu said that neither he nor his daughter has plans to contest upcoming elections.
