Mahabubnagar/Hyderabad: The Congress party which is in a comparatively better position in Telangana is witnessing intense group politics for municipal tickets from within and pressure from various quarters for tickets for the assembly.

The infighting was so intense in Mahabubnagar that even the presence of Union Minister Jairam Ramesh did not deter them from accusing each other. Jairam was present at an extended meeting of party workers which was meant to gear up the party rank and file to effectively meet the challenges in the elections.

Jairam reached Mahbubnagar in the morning. He first held a media conference and was trying to explain that it was not TRS which had taken up the cause of separate T state first. He said the Congress had taken up the issue much before the TRS was born. While the media conference was on, two groups of women, one after the other, arrived and created ruckus over denial of tickets in municipal elections. Former minister and district leader D K Aruna tried her best to pacify the party workers but in vain, Amidst this scenario, Jairam quickly finished his speech and left for Hyderabad to participate in a meeting organised by Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao with the kin of those who committed suicide for the cause of separate Telgangana.

In Hyderabad too, the meeting became chaotic after those claiming to represent Osmania University Students' Joint Action Committee demanded that tickets be given to the families of ‘martyrs’ for the ensuing general elections.

VHR picked up a heated argument with them but other MPs and Congress leaders including the TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, working committee president Uttam Kumar Reddy, K Jana Reddy, Madhu Yashki Goud and others remained mute spectators. The issue subsided as the organisers received a representation from the agitating youth and promised to look into their demands.

Soon after that, Congress leaders used the occasion to spit fire at the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and staked claim to the credit for formation of Telangana state.
