Hyderabad: Tension Grips Old City, Tension gripped parts of Old City with Mecca Masjid as epicentre after scores of youngsters started pelting stones on the security personnel after observing Friday prayers.
Hyderabad: Tension gripped parts of Old City with Mecca Masjid as epicentre after scores of youngsters started pelting stones on the security personnel after observing Friday prayers. Trouble broke out after ‘namazis’ coming out of Mecca Masjid began shouting slogans and rushed towards Moghalpura bus stop and pelted stones at the police personnel. However, the situation was brought under control when policemen dispersed the mob.
The group, mostly comprising teenagers from a particular community, pelted stones and burnt at least three cars and several two-wheelers besides damaging the window panes of a few other four-wheelers. The group also attacked an IDBI Bank ATM and broke the front glass of the ATM kiosk.
A few stone-pelting incidents were also reported in Haribowli area; however, no injuries were reported as police reacted swiftly chasing them away. Special pickets had been posted in Haribowli, Shah-Ali-Banda, and Moghalpura areas to prevent any untoward incident. “Patrolling has been intensified as a precautionary measure,” said a police officer. Meanwhile, two persons have been taken into custody from Kishanbagh area for indulging in violence.
