Hyderabad: Liquor sale to the wine dealers has been stopped throughout the State from Saturday evening as the government closed all treasury accounts. This decision was taken in view of the official process initiated to allot separate codes for Telangana and the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh as part of the bifurcation of state which would come into effect from the Appointed Day, June 2.

Hyderabad: No Liquor Sale to Wine Dealers Till June 2

The authorities of the AP Beverage Corporation Limited (APBCL), the official agency to supply liquor to the licensed dealers in the State, said that the corporation would resume the liquor sale only after the allotment of separate codes to the two successor States. The process of allotment of codes could take a day or even 10 days, they said.

Once the codes for the two States were announced, wine dealers can pay the amount through that particular code and purchase liquor from the corporation. After the code allotment, the money paid by the dealers would go into the exchequers of the two States.

Meanwhile, the dealers thronged to purchase liquor at all the depots owned by the APBCL on the last day of the sale across the State. The sale of the quantum of liquor had almost increased by 50 per cent in the last one week as compared to normal days, the officials said. While, the AP Wine Dealers Association General Secretary B Venkateswarlu said that the dealers could lift the stocks even after May 26.
