Hyderabad: Power Staff not to Relent Hyderabad: Despite fervent appeals made by the Government as well as N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister designate of Andhra Pradesh, and K Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister-designate of Telangana, to call of their strike, the agitating power sector employees have not relented.

They went on lighting strike from 6 am, all over the state demanding implementation of pay revision forthwith. The AP Power Employees Joint Action Committee resolved to intensify the strike instead. It is likely to impact the generation and supply in all parts of the state affecting even the essential services and hospitals.

The power sector employees staged protests at the Vidyut Soudha as well as the major power units including the KTPS and VTPS. The Government had appeals to the power employees not to c0ntinue the strike in the interest of the general public and maintenance of the essential services. Governor E S L Narasimhan reviewed the power situation and asked the DGP. B Prasada Rao to ensure protection to all the vital installations of the power utilities.

The chief Secretary, P K Mohanty said it was not an appropriate time for such protests, observing they could not take any decision in view of bifurcation process. The pay revision would have an additional burden of Rs 1,250 crore. Since it involved a major policy decision, it should be left to the new governments to take a decision. The unions and associations that are part of the JAC however wanted the management to enter into an agreement forthwith.
