Hyderabad: Rajiv Sharma is first Chief Secretary of TelanganaHyderabad: The Chief Minister designate of Telangana state K Chandrasekhar Rao is learnt to have opted for 1982 batch officer Rajiv Sharma to be the first Chief Secretary of the new state. Though Rajeev is junior to many other officers like Chandana Khan and Lakshmi Parthasarathy, KCR feels that Rajeev has better understanding of the problems that the new state would face and with his contacts in the bureaucracy in New Delhi, he would be able to resolve many issues which require assistance from centre in reconstruction of Telangana.

He will also have to play crucial role in maintaining cordial relations and coordinate with the residual state of Andhra Pradesh in resolving certain contentious issues. Rajiv Sharma is at present working as Additional Secretary in the Union Home Ministry and had played an important role in the process of bifurcation of the state. TRS sources claim that KCR would ask Rajiv to come to Hyderabad on Tuesday. He will then introduce him to the Governor ESL Narsimhan. KCR is also said to be scouting for best IAS officers to head the SC, ST and Minority departments since the pink party had decided to accord high priority to the welfare of these sections. It may be mentioned here that Chandana Khan had called on KCR soon after the elections were announced and staked her claim for the post of Chief Secretary. KCR however did not give her any assurance.
