Hyderabad: Normal life was affected in 10 districts of Telangana due to the day-long bandh called by TRS president and T CM-designate K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday against the Ordinance to hand over 205 villages in Khammam district to residuary Andhra Pradesh state to facilitate construction of Polavaram project. However, the bandh was partial in the state capital.

Hyderabad: Bandh Partial in City

RTC buses stayed off the roads in all 10 districts including Hyderabad. TRS leaders sat in protest outside the RTC depots since morning to prevent the buses from coming out. As a result, bus services from Hyderabad to various destinations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were suspended. The city services of the RTC in Hyderabad and Secunderabad were also hit, causing inconvenience to commuters. However, services resumed in the evening.

On the other hand, the railways operated its services including MMTS trains in the city. The Board of Intermediate Education postponed advanced supplementary examinations of 11th and 12th standards scheduled for Thursday. The bandh evoked a mixed response in Greater Hyderabad. It was near total in Secunderabad, Uppal, LB Nagar and Patancheru Assembly constituencies while it was partial in other areas like Musheerabad, Amberpet, Sanathnagar, Serilingampally among others. Life in Old City went on as usual despite MIM inching closer towards the TRS party.

A complete shutdown was observed in Khammam district, especially in Bhadrachalam and Palvancha divisions. About two lakh people, mostly tribals, who inhabit the villages are strongly opposing the Centre's move, which is said to be aimed at avoiding an inter-state dispute over the project coming up across the Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh.
