Kuppam: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who began his two-day visit of his constituency at Ramakuppam on Monday, made it clear that he was not going back on his promises including waiver of farm and SHG loans. On the free power supply, he said that the committee appointed for the purpose was meeting again to take a final decision. “At any cost we would provide quality power supply to agriculture for nine hours,” he added. He said the state would approach the Centre and also the RBI to get some respite to fulfil the promises he made during the election. Bankers had already been instructed not to insist on farmers to repay loans, he added.

Dwelling at length on the pangs of the residuary state, Naidu said, “I am yet to get an office to work. I am wearing a crown of thorns,” he said about the herculean task he was facing as chief minister. In the same breath he exuded confidence on rebuilding the state. “Anadhaga migilina Rasthranni Punadhi nunchi nirminchali (The state which remained an orphan had to be built from foundation level)’’. The Chief Minister, reaffirming his resolve to end red sanders smuggling from Chittoor district, said that the operation had started in full swing. He also assured stern measures to check atrocities and crimes against women and warned those indulging in crimes against women of severe punishments.

In Santhipuram Naidu laid foundation stones for several development initiatives including construction of 54 additional class rooms in 48 schools, civil supplies godowns and roads up to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka borders in the constituency.

He also inaugurated the `International Science Centre’ and the digital bus of Agasthya Foundation in Santhipuram where foundation chairman Ramji Raghavan explained the digital bus having latest facilities like internet, digital screen for dissemination of knowledge in rural areas.

As it is the maiden visit of Naidu after becoming chief minister, people turned up in large numbers for his meeting everywhere and the police had a tough time in controlling the enthusiastic party workers and the crowd.

A jubilant atmosphere was witnessed at all the meetings and functions Naidu addressed.

Chittoor MP N Sivaprasad, forest and environment minister B Gopalakrishna Reddy, district MLAs, collector K Ramgopal and other officials were present.
