Hyderabad: 100-Years-Old Building Throbs with Life
This heritage building was constructed in the year 1913 by Nizam. Originally it was a Town Hall in the Nizam State. The then citizens of Hyderabad raised funds to build it to mark the 40th birthday of King Nizam Mir Mahboob Ali Khan. On the request of Nizam, specially commissioned architects designed this white gem of Hyderabad's architectural splendor inspired by the beautiful palace architecture of the Pink City in Rajasthan. The blend of Rajasthan and Persian architecture is evident in this Town Hall of the Hyderabad City.

In 1952, the Town Hall was converted into Hyderabad State Legislative Assembly Building. After the formation of State of Andhra Pradesh on 1st November, 1956, the Hyderabad State Legislative Assembly Building was renamed as Building of AP Legislative Assembly and continued till 3rd August, 1985 when the new building was inaugurated.Unlike the new Assembly building which has now become the T Assembly building this old building is a congested one. It has a small media gallery to accommodate about 30 persons. If more are allowed, there is every possibility of the gallery to collapse. It has wooden stair case and wooden flooring. There are no supporting pillars. During the preparatory meeting chaired by the Minister for Legislative Affairs Y Ramakrishnudu with officials of the Assembly and DGP J V Ramudu to review the arrangements, R&B engineers advised him against allowing more number of media persons in the press gallery. They also requested him not to use the visitors gallery, which is in dilapidated condition. Following the advice, Yanamala told reporters that they have decided not to allow visitors to the visitors’ gallery, which is a tiny one.

Likewise, they had also decided to limit the gallery passes to reporters, who will cover the proceedings of the House. The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's convoy will enter the Assembly premises from Gate No. 2 instead of Gate No. 1, from which the Chief Minister and his council of ministers normally enter as Gate No 1 has the name board of Telangana State Legislature'.

Interestingly, unlike the new Assembly building, the Old Assembly building does not space for separate entrances for Speaker, Chief Minister, Deputy Speaker, Ministers and Members or to provide separate chambers for Speaker, Chief Minister, Deputy Speaker, Ministers and Leader of Opposition and Leaders of all the Legislature Parties.
