8 MLCs Join TDP
Hyderabad: 8 MLCs Join TDP, Eight MLCs, including six from the Congress, joined the TDP in the presence of party president N Chandrababu Naidu here on Saturday night.

Hyderabad: Eight MLCs, including six from the Congress, joined the TDP in the presence of party president N Chandrababu Naidu here on Saturday night. Cong MLCs -- Reddapa Reddy and Shaik Husain (elected in Governor’s quota), and nominated Cogress MLCs – B Indira and A Laxmi Sivakumari and Council members who were associated with Congress -- KVV Satyanarayana Raju (aliasChaitanya Raju who was elected from Teachers Constituency) and his son K Ravikiran Verma elected from the Graduate constituency from East and West Godavari districts switched loyalties to the ruling TDP.

Two other MLCs -- G Srinivasulu Naidu (elected from Teachers constituency from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam) and B Pulliah elected from Rayalaseema West Teachers constituency -- said that they joined the TDP inspired by the Chief Minister’s vision and his commitment to the development of the new state. Chaitanya Raju said that the major challenge before the AP was to fast track the development process in the difficult period. He and his son wanted to be associated with Naidu who was striving for the progress of the state.
Stating that he joined TDP a day after quitting the MLC post, Husain said that after the division of the State, he was staying away from the Congress. He was confident that AP would turn as ‘ Swarnandhra Pradesh’ under the rule of Naidu. It is learnt that TDP MP CM Ramesh had played a major role in bringing these MLCs into the party fold. This would help the TDP to increase its strength from seven in the Council to 15. The party requires about 20 members to have its own Chairman. At present A Chakrapani of Congress party is the Chairman of the Legislative Council. The Andhra Pradesh Council has a total strength of 50. There are nine vacancies.
