Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Government on Friday celebrated the 117th birthday of freedom fighter and revolutionary leader from Andhra Pradesh, Alluri Seetharama Raju (1897-1924), as a state event. He was shot dead by the British police while leading a tribal movement.

The statue of the revolutionary leader on the Tank Bund was decorated with flowers. Later Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu accompanied by officials and freedom fighters paid floral tributes to Seetharama Raju.

Naidu said on the occasion that the birth anniversary of the departed leader would be celebrated as a state function every year. He said that the government would construct a museum in memory of Alluri in Krishnadevapeta of Visakhapatnam district displaying the leader’s life and his fight against the British colonial rule. Releasing Alluri Seetharama Raju’s Biogrpahy, the Chief Minister said Alluri was an inspiration for all generations. Freedom fighters and writers on Alluri life were also felicitated at the function attended by leaders including BJP senior leader and MP Bandaru Dattatraya.
