Hyderabad: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) supply for motor vehicles has been stopped at retail outlets in Hyderabad and Kakinada on Tuesday. With the stoppage of gas supply, as many as six out of 12 CNG retail outlets in the city were shut down, leaving vehicle users and auto-rickshaws run CNG in lurch. Serpentine queues were witnessed at the outlets where stocks are still available.

The reports said that of the 12 outlets, six centres have gone dry and in another six gas stocks would meet for one more day. Vijayawada sector is also likely to face CNG shortage from Wednesday.

Bhagyanagar Gas Limited, a joint venture of GAIL and HPCL, said the recent explosion in gas pipeline of GAIL at Nagaram in East Godavari district had led to disruption in gas supply to the State capital.

The gas supply to the extent of 53,000 SCMD (Standard Cubic Meter per Day) in Hyderabad and 6,000 SCMD in Kakinada came to a halt since Tuesday morning. The authorities said the company was exploring possibilities of making supplies by alternative means.
