Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said that the government was in the process of finalising the location of the capital city and a decision on the issue would be taken within 10 days.

Naidu said that the location of the new capital would be decided based on the resources available in the region for development. Once the decision is taken, the government would announce its action plan for its development, he said. It may be recalled that the Sivaramakrishnan Committee which met Naidu last week submitted a draft report on possible locations. It had toured Vijayawada, Guntur, Chittoor, Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam among other towns. He reportedly asked if they had toured Rayalaseema areas also. Following this, the committee toured Anantapur and other districts in the region. The proposals before the government will be discussed at the next meeting of the state cabinet and then the report would be sent to the Centre for final approval. Naidu also hinted at increasing the number of districts. It may result in the state getting five more Assembly seats. He said he had urged the Centre to provide all necessary aid to help the state in its developmental works.
