Ongole: After unusual twists and turns to the election of zilla parishad chairman post, the TDP rebel candidate Eedara Haribabu bagged the chairman post defeating the official TDP candidate Manne Ravindra with a margin of one vote.
Out of 56 ZPTC members in Prakasam district, 31 members belong to YCP and 25 members were TDP.However, three members shifted their allegiance to the TDP just before elections making the number of ZPTC equal in both the parties.

Meanwhile, Markapuram ZPTC member Ranga Reddy belonging to YCP was arrested by the police in the SC and ST atrocities case giving an edge to the TDP. When everyone thought that it was a cakewalk for the TDP to win the ZP chairman post, suddenly Ponnaluru ZPTC member Eedara Haribabu announced his candidature as an independent candidate for the chairman post though he belongs to TDP. The TDP leaders tried their best to impress upon Haribabu to withdraw from the contest. Even Minister Siddha Raghava Rao also appealed to him to withdraw. However, he did not heed to their requests. Buoyed by his decision, the YCP members supported him and cast their votes in his favour. The official candidate Manne Ravindra lost the election by one vote. The YCP candidate, Nuaksani Balaji, was also elected vice-chairman with one vote difference defeating the TDP candidate.
District TDP president Damacharla Janardhan in a swift move against the rebel candidate Eedara Haribabu has taken disciplinary action suspending him from the party.
