AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu NaiduHyderabad: Realising that he cannot run the administration sitting in Hyderabad for long, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has now focussed attention on short-listing the areas for construction of a capital city ahead of the report (August 31) to be submitted by Sivaramakrishnan Committee which was appointed by the Centre to recommend the place for the new capital of Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu on Sunday constituted a nine-member advisory committee, comprising politicians as well as top executives of various business groups including GVK and GMR, to examine various aspects on the construction of a capital city for residuary Andhra Pradesh.

The committee will study various suitable models across the world. Interestingly, Naidu's trusted lieutenant and Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana has been appointed the head of the panel. Narayana, it may be mentioned, has been a strong protagonist of locating the capital between Vijayawada and Guntur. As Narayana would be heading the nine-member committee, it was now more or less certain that the capital would be somewhere in that part only.

The panel includes TDP Rajya Sabha member Y S Chowdary, TDP Lok Sabha MP Galla Jayadev, whose family owns the Amara Raja Group, ex-MLA Beeda Mastan Rao, G V Sanjay Reddy of GVK Group, Bommidala Srinivas of GMR Group, M Prabhakara Rao, chairman of Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd, and Chintalapati Srinivasa Raju, chairman of Peepul Capital. The Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration Department would be the committee's Member Convenor, according to the GO.

In addition to the members named in the GO, three prominent persons of national and international repute may be co-opted as special invitees to the committee which shall propose an action plan with timeliness for submission of its recommendations.

The committee would also study the efficient use of natural resources -- land, water and energy – transport facilities, green technologies, green spaces and waterfronts that promotes smart and sustainable urban development.
