There is no doubt that the two Telugu states have been functioning in an undisclosed competitive background. No sooner the Telangana state government has decided to hold the official celebrations of Independence Day at Golconda Fort than the Andhra Pradesh state has come out with a proposal of holding the Andhra Pradesh state Independence Day Celebrations at Konda Reddy Buruju in Kurnool. Yes, if Golconda Fort is the right choice for Telangana, indubitably, Konda Reddy Buruju in Kurnool is the right Choice for the official state celebrations of Independence Day in Andhra Pradesh.

Konda Reddy Buruju

Kurnool aptly known as the Gateway to Rayalaseema was the capital of Andhra state before the emergence of Andhra Pradesh on November 1, 1956. Kurnool served as the capital of Andhra State from October 1, 1953 until October 31, 1956. The people of this region have been demanding to make Kurnool as the capital of residuary Andhra Pradesh. Nevertheless, the chances for the same are not bright, according to many analysts, though no official statement has come from the government sources to this effect, so far. By holding the official state level celebrations of the Independence Day, certainly, the morale of the Rayalaseema people will get boosted up in this milieu.

At the national level, the Red Fort in Old Delhi turns to be the venue for the ID celebrations, every year. Red Fort is a historical monument that puts forward the heritage and culture of India in the world arena. In a similar way, Konda Reddy Buruju has a great history associated with it and would serve the same purpose.

Konda Reddy Buruju is believed to be built by Achyuta Devarayalu of Vijayanagar Empire and remains a splendorous example of the architecture of those times. Konda Reddy Buruju is not the full, but only, a part of Kurnool Fort. It is the only part left out of the magnificent fort. History reveals the fact that Konda Reddy Buruju was a lookout and was used as a prison in those times. A revolutionary person named Konda Reddy was imprisoned by the Nawab of Kurnool when he tried to oppose him.

Konda Reddy, the apparent last ruler of Alampur, defeated Kurnool Nawab who was a subordinate and an associate of the Golkonda Kings several times. After a long-drawn-out battle Konda Reddy was incarcerated and imprisoned in the stronghold. Because of his courage and untiringly resolve to fight the Muslim rulers, the fort came to be known as Konda Reddy Buruju in the times that followed.

Enriched with so much of heritage and culture, Konda Reddy Buruju can be replaced by no other option for holding the ID celebrations in Andhra Pradesh.
