Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday (August 12, 2014) said that there was a need to have a temporary capital if the state was to move ahead on the path of development, considering that building a new capital will take a long time.

Accordingly it has been decided that Vijayawada should be the temporary capital of Andhra Pradesh till the main capital city was built. The concern Naidu has raised in this milieu is to undertake the general administration in the proximity of the people.
According to Palle Raghunadha Reddy, the minister for Information and Public Relations, Chandrababu Naidu has asked the officials to immediately find built-up area of 1.2 lakh square feet with all the facilities so that the heads of department can function from there.
From the other end, it is evident the specially appointed Sivarama Krishnan committee has been visiting various districts in Andhra Pradesh to study the feasibility. Also, they have called on the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu recently to discuss this matter and reportedly shared with him, the main issues they had observed so far during their visits to various districts. Though the committee is appointed to study the feasibility of the places to turn into the capital city, the ultimate decision would be undertaken by the state government, accordingly. The same has been reiterated by Venkaiah Naidu many times, clearly indicating that whatsoever place chosen by the authorities of Andhra Pradesh will be turned into the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
According to political analysts it is the strategy of Chandrababu Naidu to subsequently turn the surrounding areas of Vijayawada into the permanent capital of residuary Andhra Pradesh. They also opine that towards the same, Naidu has strategically declared Vijayawada as the temporary capital so that mentally the people of all regions including those who have been demanding to turn Kurnool as the capital of Andhra Pradesh may get prepared for their permanent capital near to Vijayawada. This is a wise idea that has come from Naidu so that a massive protest from the people of Rayalaseema could be averted well in time.
Also, in the previous instances, P. Narayana, one of the deputy Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, has iterated many times that the area between Guntur-Vijayawada may be turned into the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. All these issues collectively indicate that certainly a place near to Vijayawada will be turned into the new capital of Andhra Pradesh!!
