AP Transco to ensure 24x 7 power supply from Oct 2, As part of plan to ensure 24 x 7 power supply to domestic, industrial and commercial sectors from October 2, the Andhra Pradesh government has adopted new technology to reduce transmission and distribution (T and D) losses.

Hyderabad: As part of plan to ensure 24 x 7 power supply to domestic, industrial and commercial sectors from October 2, the Andhra Pradesh government has adopted new technology to reduce transmission and distribution (T and D) losses.
The T and D losses are a major hurdle to implement Power for all (PFA) scheme. APGENCO Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) K Vijayanand, while participating in the Independence Day celebrations at Vidyut Soudha here on Friday, said the reduction in T and D losses by 15 per cent would make a huge difference in the conservation of power. Towards this, government adopted latest initiatives such as strengthening of Extra High Voltage Transmission Network (EHVTN), increase transmission availability and the effective implementation of various ongoing energy efficiency schemes.
Stating that the AP Transco had achieved 99 per cent availability in terms of transmission of power and stood number on in the country, the official said after adopting slew of measures in energy conservation, the utilities were able to supply power without restrictions and power cuts for more than one month. Increase in water levels of Srisailam reservoir near came as a boon to the State power sector in terms of increase in hydel generation, he added.
He further said the government was also committed to enhance power supply to agriculture sector to nine hours from the present seven hours, Vijayanand said following talks the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had with the Union Energy Ministry, the Centre, had agreed to set up 1000 mw solar power plant by NTPC and state government jointly.
Apart from this, AP Genco called for bidding for the development of 500 MW solar power project and also expedited the construction of 800 MW of additional capacity in Krishnapatnam, 800 MW in VTPS, and 960 MW of hydel power plant at Polavaram, to meet the future power demand, the officials said.
