Visakhapatnam: Vice-Admiral Satish Soni, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command (ENC), hailed the new milestones achieved and standards set in all three dimensions, with the Eastern Fleet flying the White Ensign at far-off places, the best aircraft in the naval inventory flying off the eastern seaboard, and the sub-surface domain making great strides as well in terms of nuclear propulsion.

Addressing the officers during the Independence Day celebrations at the Naval Base here on Friday, he said while commissioning of new facilities like the VLF Station at Kattabomman were important milestones, and it was not the hardware but the spirit, commitment and dedication of the men and women manning it that made the Navy a respected and feared force.

Vice-Admiral Satish Soni said that the Indian Navy would be hosting the International Fleet Review in February 2016 in Visakhapatnam, wherein apart from a large number of ships, senior dignitaries, including the President, Prime Minister and Defence Minister, were expected to participate in various functions and visit naval facilities. He urged everyone to prepare for this mega event, which would be a historic occasion for the Indian Navy and for the city of Visakhapatnam.

On the occasion, a Ceremonial Parade was held at the Eastern Naval Command Parade Ground on Friday. In a parallel event at the Navy War Memorial on the Beach Road on Friday, Vice-Admiral V K Namballa, Director-General, Naval Projects (Visakhapatnam), placed a floral wreath and paid tributes to martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation.
