17 Killed in Five Road Mishaps in AP, TS. Seventeen persons were killed in five road accidents across two States on Wednesday. Among the victims were seven passengers travelling in an autorickshaw who were killed in a ghastly road accident on the outskirts of Maganur village in Mahabubnagar district involving a lorry.

Mahabubnagar/Karimnagar/Warangal/Atmakur/Guntur: Seventeen persons were killed in five road accidents across two States on Wednesday. Among the victims were seven passengers travelling in an autorickshaw who were killed in a ghastly road accident on the outskirts of Maganur village in Mahabubnagar district involving a lorry.

Among the victims were four men and two women. Three children were among the five persons injured. While six were killed on the spot one succumbed to the injuries on the way to the hospital. Three of the deceased were from Mudumal village, while one each of the others were residents of Dandu, Neredgam and Sangambanda.

The passengers were on their way to the railway station in Maganur mandal to return to their places of migration in Maharashtra and Karnataka after taking part in the comprehensive house-hold survey on August 19 in Mudimal, Nergaddam and Sangambad villages of Muganur mandal in Makthal Assembly constituency. They had reached the villages two days back.

The victims were travelling in the auto after failing to secure the train booking. The speeding lorry hit the auto near the Indian Oil petrol bunk. They victims were thrown out of the vehicle by the severity of the accident. The bodies were scattered on the road. The auto was badly damaged.

The accident was suspected to have been caused by more people made to travel than the capacity. While the auto was going to Makthal from Krishna village, the lorry was on its way to Raichur from Hyderabad.

The injured were admitted the Makthal government hospital. Makthal CI Venkatesh and Muganur SI Anil Kumar visited the spot. They supervised shifting of the bodies to the hospital.

In Karimnagar four persons were killed in a mishap near Kothapet in Boyinapalli mandal, involving two autos. The victims were identified as Domakunda Bhumayya, Domakunda Yashoda, Kummari Salavva and Kummari Durgayya of Ambedkarnagar in Vemulawada. They were going to Kandikotkur in Illanthakunda mandal. Their auto collided with a Tata Ace.

In Warangal two persons died and ten others were injured, four seriously, when an auto fell on its side after the driver lost control at Muthyalammagudem in Mahabubabad mandal.

In Atmakur an oil tanker and a lorry collided on the highway near Vasili in Atmakur mandal of Nellore district resulting in death of two drivers at around 1.30 am. The oil tanker coming from Nellore crashed into the lorry going in the opposite direction from Kadapa. Staff of 108 ambulance and the police reached the spot and removed the bodies struck in the cabins. Atmakur SI Venugopal Reddy supervised the traffic restoration work. Both lorries were badly damaged.

In Guntur a lorry and a two-wheeler collided near local mirchi-yard leading to death of two persons and serious injuries to two others.
