Hyderabad: The team of officials led by Municipal Administration Minister and advisor for Capital Development Committee P Narayana was impressed with the construction of Naya Raipur and the infrastructural facilities provided to cater to all section of the society.

The team, after visiting Gandhinagar and Chandigarh, arrived in Naya Raipur on Thursday. The committee members said they were impressed with the parks, green belts and man-made ponds which were created to protect environment. The city earned the name `Green City' due to the 500-meter wide green belt surrounding the city, it said.

All the roads in the city are 60 meters to 100 meters wide to take care of traffic problems for another 50 years. Chattisgarh is separated from Madhya Pradesh in 2000 and the capital construction began in 2006, about 20 kilometers away from Raipur. The new capital is being built in 8,000 hectares in phases. Only 2,500 hectares belong to the government and the remaining 5,500 hectares are acquired from the farmers. Even 12 surrounding villages were also merged with the city. The minister's team visited one of the villages Kayabandha where they interacted with the local people.

Secretariat and other important offices were shifted to Naya Raipur in 2012. The most attracting part of the new city is Central City Park Lake built in an extent of 260 acres. Bus-cum-rail transport and light rail transport are important sectors of the transport system.

Funds were drawn from Hudco and other commercial banks. The visiting members said the capital was built keeping in mind the culture and tradition of Chattisgarh.

Naya Raipur Development Authority chairman N Bhajendra Kumar and Chief Executive Officer Sourabh Kumar explained the features of the capital to the visiting members.

Capital Advisory Committee members Beda Mastan Rao and officials Vani Mohan, Dr P Panduranga Rao and P Thimma Reddy were present.
