AP may reopen ACB case against Botcha, The Andhra Pradesh government will run 403 odd liquor shops in the State spread over all the 13 districts.

  • Govt decides to run 400 liquor shops on its own
  • No move to hike liquor prices as in Telangana State

Botcha SatyanarayanaHyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government will run 403 odd liquor shops in the State spread over all the 13 districts. Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, Minister for Excise and BC Welfare Kollu Ravindra said the District Collectors would oversee the establishment of these shops and send reports to the government.

This is contrary to the liquor policy formulated by the united Andhra Pradesh for the excise year 2012-2014. Under the old policy, licence to liquor shops was issued on a fixed fee and granted through the draw of lots. As there were not many takers, the TDP government has decided to run the shops on its own, probably on the lines of Tamil Nadu. The minister denied that the government was planning to hike the liquor prices, to fill the empty coffers, as being proposed by the Telangana government. “As of now there are no plans to hike the prices of liquor. We will be happy with the likely turnover of Rs 12,000 crore,” the minister said.

On the pending ACB cases against former PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana, former ministers Dharmana Prasada Rao and his family members and Mopidevi Venkataramana , the Minister said he was discussing the issue with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who was determined to book cases against the Congress leaders involved in the liquor scam.

Ravindra also said the vigilance enforcement department was being split into three divisions and would be located in Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
