Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday issued an order renaming the Rajiv Aarogyasri Health Insurance Scheme as “Dr Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Aarogya Seva”.

Earlier, the Congress government, led by Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, had launched Rajiv Aarogyasri Health Insurance Scheme with the objective of providing quality health care to the poor for identified diseases.

Taking the scheme forward, the AP government has decided to add 100 new treatments to the existing 938, taking it to a total of 1,038 treatments eligible for the cashless scheme. The government on Saturday issued a GO to this effect.

It further enhanced the existing limit of financial coverage from Rs 2 lakh per family per annum to Rs 2.5 lakh.

In another decision, the government has renamed Rajiv Yuva Shakti scheme as Chief Minister’s Empowerment of Youth (CMEY) by issuing a GO. The government also proposes to issue new guidelines for the implementation of the scheme.

According to sources, the TDP government was planning to drop Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi names from all the welfare schemes in a phased manner. As part of this, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is learnt to be considering the proposal of renaming Indira Sagar Polavaram Project as NTR Sagar Polavaram Project.
