Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government which has succeeded in overcoming the power crisis in the State will now launch a massive programme to distribute 22 lakh LED bulbs for 11 lakh domestic consumers under Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation programme in Guntur district on Wednesday.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will launch the scheme at Vinukonda and Nagaram in the district. The scheme is being launched in view of the huge potentiality of energy savings in the field of domestic, agriculture, municipal administration and other sections, the CM said while holding teleconference with the officials of Energy Department here.

Naidu emphasised on the need to replace incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs by March, 2015. This would ensure substantial energy savings of about 500 MW per annum and would also reduce the electricity bills. He also directed the power utilities to optimise the conventional generation, promote renewable energy and expedite the EE and EC programmes duly involving all sections of consumers.

Meanwhile, Energy Secretary Ajay Jain informed the Chief Minister that the Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments Limited (REIL) agreed in principle to set up solar panel manufacturing units in AP.

The modalities to set up the plan would be prepared in the meeting between the two States soon. In this connection, Naidu also instructed the officials to write a letter to the Union Ministry of Industries with regard to various issues pertaining to land allotment, investment and equity ratio in the project.

The CM was also informed that the Power Utilities had finalised the tender for purchase of power and would enter into agreement for procurement of 1040 MW from June, 2015 to May, 2016.
