Hyderabad: Just two days after the bear hug between Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Rao and his ministers have launched a scathing attack on Naidu alleging that he was responsible for the power crisis in Telangana. They also said that Naidu was delaying the inauguration of Krishnapatnam power plant as he wants to deprive the State of its share of power. Reacting to this, Naidu on Thursday evening told a media conference that Telangana chief minister should realise that the power shortage in Telangana was due to his lack of foresight and that the TDP was not responsible for it.

He said Chandrasekhar Rao should have realised that the division of the State was unscientific which caused problems for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. While he was slowly overcoming the problems, his counterpart was blaming him without any basis. Rao is trying to draw some peripheral issues to the Centre ignoring the basic problems,’’ Naidu said.

The AP Chief Minister said that while he had taken quick measures to enter into MoUs with other states and succeeded in getting power, the TRS government did not do so and was now buying power at an exorbitant cost of over Rs 8 per unit. In the past when the state was united Congress Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had also committed a similar mistake and had bought power at Rs 14 a unit, Naidu said.

Replying to a question, he said he had always pleaded that the Centre should come to the rescue of TS and allocate as much power as possible. The AP government too would give power to TS once it became self-sufficient.

Asked about Krishnapatnam power plant, he said the AP government had refused to accept the PPAs which were not approved by the APERC and there was no question of reopening the issue. “Let the Telangana government enter into new PPAs with AP and after the regulatory commission approved them, the AP government would give power as per the conditions in the PPAs,” he added.
