The prosecution said the seven accused were involved in the sensational broad day light murder at Pedavutapalli on Chennai-Kolkata national highway on September 24.

Three persons, Gandham Nageswara Rao and his two sons, Pagidi Maraiah and Gunjudu Maraiah were killed by the hired killers while they were travelling by a vehicle to Eluru from Gannavaram airport. The assailants chased the vehicle in which the three persons were travelling to attend a court case and shot them from closed range and escaped. Those killed in the incident were accused in the murder of Durga Rao, an hotelier in Eluru. The dead hailed from Pina Kamidi village in West Godavari district. The village is buzzing with rumours that a London-based astrologer had provided Rs 1 crore to hire the hitmen.

The police sources, however, said that the hitmen were hired by Sirigiri Chinna Srinivas, who lives in Kalyapuri area in Delhi. The police, however, did not disclose about the cash paid to the hitmen.

The city police, during the investigation, seized the vehicle in which the assailants allegedly travelled. Some persons, who allegedly helped assassins, were arrested. The police also arrested some family members and relatives of the hotelier and also a circle inspector and three constables attached to one town police station in Eluru. The policemen were charged with providing unauthorised escort to three persons who were shot dead. The city police succeeded in arresting suspected hirelings with the help of the Delhi police.
