Rajahmundry: The East Godavari district administration has swung into action to face severe cyclonic storm Hudhud.


The officials have even closed the national highway between Kakinada and Itchapuram from 5 pm on Saturday. Six NDRF teams have been deployed in the district for rescue operations.

East Godavari District Collector Neetu Prasad has directed the officials to evacuate the people from in low-lying areas on war footing. About 17,000 people have already been evacuated to 97 relief camps set up in East Godavari district. The Collector has instructed the police as well as RTO officials not to allow any vehicle to run between Rajahmundry and Kakinada till normality returns.

The district machinery is in touch on satellite phone with the fishermen at Vasalatippa, Bhairava Palem and Magasani Tippa who ventured into the sea.

Medical teams have been sent to 82 villages and 46 veterinary teams with vaccines have been deployed in villages.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa has visited Vasalatippa under Uppalaguptha mandal and reviewed the rescue works.
