Hyderabad: Expressing shock over the massive devastation caused by the Hudhud cyclone, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who conducted an aerial survey of the areas ravaged by the cyclone, said the Centre had assured him of all possible help. A visibly shaken Naidu said: “I am shocked to see the vast extent of devastation caused by the Cyclone Hudhud affecting lives of lakhs of people. This has to be declared as a national calamity. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh are likely to come here tomorrow. When they come, I will brief them in person on the heavy damage caused,” he said.

Naidu also promised to stay here for three or four days to personally supervise the relief operations. Restoration of the systems, communications and normal life would be given top priority. Property damage would be estimated later, he said.

The government also released the GO issued in Hyderabad on Sunday with regard to higher compensation for property as well as crop and cattle losses. Electricity, water and milk supply would be restored in most of the areas in the city to begin with and later in other areas in North Andhra, he stated.

The Chief Minister also said that help would be taken from the neighbouring states if necessary to provide relief to the affected people. Helicopters would be requisitioned for quick relief and rescue operations.

Volunteers and others from other districts would be brought to assist the local officials in the relief work.

Following reports of petrol bunk dealers selling petrol at exorbitant prices, Naidu made a surprise visit to the bunk in the evening and enquired about the situation. He directed officials to take action against dealers who were selling petrol at high rates.
