Guntur: District Collector Kantilal Dande on Tuesday said arrangements were being made to send relief materiel and food items to the victims and displaced persons of the Hudhud cyclone in Visakhapatnam region.

He appealed to the people of the district to contribute their mite in cash or kind to help people in distress in three districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakahapatnam.

Addressing a meeting of officials at his chambers here on Tuesday, as many as 50 teams from the district had left for Visakhapatnam to participate in relief and rehabilitation works. Each team comprised between 300 and 400 personnel.

As many as 35,000 food packets and 50,000 butter milk packets had been despatched first on October 13 and 1.90 lakh food packets on Tuesday.

A truck load of potatoes and vegetables has also been despatched. Besides 18,000 litres of milk packets, 7,000 biscuit packets from the Best Price stores and two lakh water packets were also sent. The district administration despatched 40,000 litres of milk, 70 metric tonnes of vegetables, 50 metric tonnes of onions and 2.5 lakh drinking water packets, according to Agriculture Minister PPulla Rao in a press statement. As many as 95 tonnes of fruits were also sent.
