Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government is all set to put on fast track the Hudhud Cyclone Damage Assessment and Relief Operations using latest technology.

The field staff, engaged in the damage enumeration and relief works in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, would now be equipped with latest tablet phones by Saturday. This helps in augmenting and updating information, even from the remote parts of the cyclone-affected districts, by using the mobile environment, and helps in fast tracking the relief and response operations in the affected districts.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu receiving a cheque for Rs 61 lakh from a top executive of Hospira pharma company as donation to the CM Relief Fund for Hudhud victims in Visakhapatnam on Friday. Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas Rao is also seen.
Disclosing this, Information Technology Advisor to the State government J Satyanrayana on Friday said an on-line portal has already been created, and field staff from 16 departments could now log into the portal to update information through tablets, mobile phones, laptops and PC’s on this website. Besides updating information, the staff could also upload photographs on the damages. The GPS system-enabled website could able to identify the places of the damage reported from the field staff with its longitude and latitude parameters. For this purpose, the government has already procured 500 tablets from the Bangalore which were on their way to Visakhapatnam. A team of personnel were also sent to the port city, who would train the field staff on how to update the information using the tablets and mobile phones, he added.

Satyaranayana said the on-line portal could take any quantum of amount, and there were nearly 44 parameters, by which reports could be generated on the cyclone damage assessment. The reports could be generated village, mandal, division, department, sector wise. This, he said, would enable the government to come to a conclusion on the damage assessment on different parameters. Once any kind of damage like roads, bridges etc were uploaded, government would immediately inform the head of the departments concerned to accord sanction to the works to be taken. As all this would be carried out on-line with mobile environment interface, it would be faster for the government to understand the extent of damage and also to respond immediately to take up the relief operations, he added.
