Hyderabad: Entire power distribution system would be restored in Visakhapatnam city by Sunday evening, AP Genco Chairman and Managing Director K Vijayanand said. Reviewing the power restoration works in the cyclone-hit port city, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram, the official said with the sustained and concerted efforts, power supply has been restored to 2.5 lakh consumers as against total 7.5 lakh in Vizag city. Efforts are being made to provide power supply to many parts of the city within a day or two. Vijayanand said around Rs 1,000 crore loss incurred to power sector out of which Rs 700 crore loss was to DISCOMs.

AP Transco's loss amounts to Rs 300 crore, which includes the damage of 34 (400 kv towers), 20 (220 kv towers), 11 (132 kv towers) and 18 (400 kv towers). While interacting with media, State Energy Secretary Ajay Jain said arrangements were made to distribute 10,000 solar lanterns in remote tribal areas.
