Vijayawada: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitaraman has adopted two villages in West Godavari district under "Sansad Adarsha Grama Yojana" proposed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Disclosing this to the media here on Friday, Nirmala Sitaraman said she had identified Pedamainivani Lanka (more popular as PM Lanka) and Thurpu Tallu in Narsapur Assembly constituency for adoption. She said she would spend three days with the people, elected representatives and officials of these two villages from November 15 and plan for the overall development of the villages and the people.

She said the Prime Minister had asked the MPs to adopt one village a year and develop them in all aspects. She said she had adopted these two villages in the first year and would continue to adopt two villages every year all through her term as MP from the State. The Union Minister thanked the Narsapur MP Gokaraju Gangaraju for supporting her in selecting the two villages.

She also thanked the sarpanches of the two villages T Nagalakshmi of PM Lanka and S Subbalakshmi of Thurpu Tallu for accepting her offer.

Panchayat secretary of the two villages B Desiraju, BJP leaders Suresh Reddy, J Shyam Kishore, U Srinivasa Raju and others were present at the news conference.
