No supply from Sileru as AP not getting power from TS plants
Hyderabad: Taking the power row between the two states to a new level, the Andhra Pradesh government for the first time admitted that they had not supplied power from Sileru as an act of tit for tat for AP was not getting any power generated from the plants in Telangana territory.
Reacting to the allegations made by Telangana government on Monday that the farmers’ suicides in the state were taking place on account of the Andhra Pradesh government not honouring the AP State Re-Organisation Act 2014, AP Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said that the TS was making wild allegations against the AP government for narrow political considerations. Telangana was unnecessarily adopting a confrontationist attitude instead of resolving issues amicably. Both the states are bound to follow the AP State Re-Organisation Act 2014 in letter and spirit, Yanamala said.
Recalling KCR’s statement that Telangana was entitled to utilise 53.89 per cent of power of the total installed capacity in Andhra Pradesh, including power generated from Hinduja, Krishnapatnam and Sileru power plants, Yanamala said that in fact it is the TS government which has been violating the Act but is blaming AP for its non-performance.
While blaming AP for denying power to TS, the Telangana government has not scheduled even a single unit to the Andhra Pradesh, from the power generating units located in Telangana, Yanamala said. “On top of it, the TS has been drawing, power in excess of its due share. It is against this backdrop that the AP government did not supply from Sileru power project. You can’t expect us to do things one sided. It has to be give-and-take approach,” the AP Finance Minister said.
Yanamala said that if there were any contentious issues between the two state governments, they should sort it out through mutual discussions. But, taking on one state government and its CM, on the floor of the House of another State Assembly would not hold well, he added.
Had the Telangana State scheduled the APs share of power from the Jurala hydel generation unit then there is justification of Telangana in demanding power from Sileru Hydel project. But, Telangana government has been using the entire power generated from the projects located in its territory and still blaming Andhra Pradesh, Yanamala said.
