Hyderabad: The Government of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday announced that it would conduct the first year Inter exams from March 11.

Human resources development minister Ganta Srinivas Rao said that the AP government has tentatively decided to conduct first year Inter exams from March 11 and second year from March 12.

He said the file relating to this has been sent to the Telangana government and that it was hopeful that the TS would respond positively as it would help the students of both the states, Ganta said.

After a joint meeting with his Telangana counterpart G Jagadish Reddy failed to resolve the issue, the AP government had shot off a letter to Telangana government requesting co-operation for holding common exams.

While the Telangana government wants that both the states should conduct separate exams, the AP government is of the firm opinion that common examinations should be conducted lest it might affect students in both the states with regard to Eamcet.

However indications from TS government are that it will not agree to the proposal of AP to conduct common examination. A high-level meeting would be held in a couple of days to chalk out plans for conducting separate exams for Inter students in Telangana," a senior official of the Board of Intermediate.

Meanwhile, Ganta said AP government was planning to scrap first year Intermediate exams. Instead it proposes to conduct one exam at the end of second year on the lines of CBSE," he said.

He said the government would set up IIM at Gambheeram and a tribal university at Sabbavaram in Visakhapatnam.
According to him, as the Centre had rejected the place offered by the AP government to set up the tribal university in Vizianagaram, the government is now trying to offer land for the same in Visakhapatnam district.
