Hyderabad: The new generation political leaders in Andhra Pradesh seem to have embarked on a mission to strengthen their parties in Telangana. The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the main Opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) which were branded as anti-Telangana forces in the last general elections will have their young leaders campaigning in the newly-carved State.

While the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) headed by Chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao already hinted that one among either his daughter and Nizamabad MP K Kavitha or his son and IT minister KT Rama Rao would lead the party by 2019 elections, the TDP has zeroed in on Lokesh, son of party president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, as the face of the party in Telangana.
To give a tough fight to 34-year-old entrepreneur-turned-politician Lokesh, the YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy has handed over the party leadership to his sister Sharmila in Telangana. After the poll debacle, Sharmila has been maintaining distance from the party affairs.
The 'Paramarsha Yatra’ being launched by Sharmila from Mahbubnagar on December 8 is viewed as the party’s strategy to expand base in Telangana where the YSRCP could win only three Assembly and one MP seats in 2014 general election. According to sources close to Jaganmohan Reddy, he does not want to lose the party’s base in Telangana. As the party has already established its own cadre in South Telangana, it would not be difficult to strengthen the party in the rest of the areas, he believes.
To counter Sharmila' s yatra, Lokesh, who already is busy setting things right in Telangana party unit, is understood to be seriously planning to embark on a yatra to console the families of farmers who committed suicides and also meet senior citizens who were denied pensions and other social welfare schemes in the State.
The TDP considers TRS as the main rival party. Lokesh is likely to target only KCR and his governance. Frequent tweets against the TRS government by Lokesh hinted that the budding leader would intensify his fight against KCR. In a fresh take on TRS, Lokesh tweeted that “Biggest achievement of TRS's 6 months of governance is blaming @ncbn for their failures. If you cant deliver, resign & TDP will deliver.”
Party sources said Lokesh had already instructed the party leaders in Telangana districts to make the party membership drive a success by enrolling maximum number of people.
