The aids were distributed to the physically-challenged who came from the Centre of Visually-Challenged, Bhimavaram, Zion School of Visually and Physically-Challenged, Rajahmundry, Andhra Blind Model School, Narsapuram, Sri Venkateswara Deaf School, Bhimavaram and Arunodaya Mano Vikasa Kendram, Bhimavaram.

The aids included e-Sticks, sound alert system, talking box and hearing aids.

The students and staff of the college have been making aids for the physically-challenged persons at the Assistive Technology Lab (ATL) in the college for the last five years and distributing them to the disabled every year on December 3. The lab was set up in the college in 2009.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Prabhakar, Superintendent of Government Hospital, Bhimavaram, hailed the spirit of service being displayed by the engineering students. He said that the students were making unique aids for the benefit of the physically-challenged at low costs.

Dr U V Ramana Raju, Managing Trustee, Centre for Visually-Challenged, Bhimavaram, said the engineering students were exhibiting their talents by producing unique products for the disabled persons. He wished that the students should produce more products for the sake of the physically challenged in the future. He congratulated the college management, Principal, Vice-Principal, teaching staff and students for their contribution for the welfare of the disabled persons.

The students of the engineering college also demonstrated 16 projects to the visitors on the occasion.

Dr D Suryanarayana, Director, Sri Vishnu Institute of Technology, Dr G Srinivasa Rao, Principal, Sri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Dr P Srinivasa Raju, Vice-Principal, Dr K Padmavathi, Dean, ATL, HODs and representatives of voluntary organisations were present.
