PUC Chairman convenes meeting with officials

Tirupati: Public Undertakings Committee (PUC) chairman Kagita Venkat Rao directed the officials of Tourism department to take steps to develop tourism in the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. He held a review meeting with the functioning of the Tourism department at Padmavati Guest House here on Wednesday.

Addressing the meeting, Venkat Rao said that there were many ancient temples in Andhra Pradesh. He told them to develop and set up tourism resorts, gardens in order to attract tourists. He also directed the officials to set up boards, sign boards on roadside with information, road maps and directions regarding the tourist spots.

When the chairman asked whether the contract employees of the department were regularised, the officials replied that the onus on regularisation of contract employees lied with the government. At the same time, the contract workers could not be removed, the officials added. Venkat Rao told them to fill the vacancies through local employment.


The Committee members suggested to the officials on setting up boards and flexis of temples on the highway of Tirupati-Chittoor which was useful to tourists. They also suggested to making arrangements to book hotel rooms through online.

PUC members Srikant Reddy, Lalita Kumari, P Srinivasulu Reddy, M J Govinda Reddy, R Venkata Krishna Ranga Rao and PJ Chandrasekhar Rao, Tourism department Executive Director Amarendra Kumar and other officials participated in the review meeting.

Later, addressing the media, he said: “Though Andhra Pradesh government is functioning with deficit budget it’s going ahead with development plans. We submitted reports on increasing the income of Electricity department, Tourism and the TTD. The panel would take special interest in protecting the assets of temples across the State. Youth would get employment through tourism sector if the temples across the Rayalaseema region are developed.”

The TTD EO brought to the notice of the panel that they were utilising 1.2 lakh units of power daily. He said that the government was planning to provide quality power to Tirumala by installing solar panels and wind mills. He stated that the government was planning to provide electricity through cable network in six cyclone-hit districts. “The main aim of the committee is provide good services to the people,” he informed.

Later PUC chairman Kagita Venkat Rao held a meeting with TTD EO MG Gopal and higher officials APSPDC at Padmavathi Guest House.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman directed APSPDC CMD H Y Dora to provide good services to the people. He lauded the staff for working round-the- clock aftermath of Hudhud cyclone in Vizag and resumed power supply to north Andhra areas within a short period.
