Hindupur: Local police on Saturday arrested the driver, Mallikarjun, and clerk, Prasad, of a prominent businessman, Anjaneyulu, of the town for allegedly trying to extort Rs.10 lakh and a silk sari for ‘Sunithamma’, after issuing telephonic threats in the name of Paritala Sriram. Sriram is the son of State Minister Sunitha, the widow of assassinated Telugu Desam leader Paritala Ravi.

The duo allegedly made telephone calls, using cell phones, to Anjaneyulu’s sons holding out threats to them, with the hope of securing the amount. They reportedly stated that they would send a person in car to collect the sum.

Sensing something fishy, the businessman approached the police, who nabbed Mallikarjun and Prasad. Learning about this episode, Sunitha directed the police to take strong against those resorting to extortion in the name of Paritala family.
