Farmers cry foul over benami crop loans

Badvel (Kadapa): Badvel Mandal Parishad President Baisani Pratap Reddy has alleged that the president of Chinnakesampalli Cooperative Society has reportedly grabbed more than Rs 3 crore loans under benami names.
He said that the passbooks, Aadhaar cards and rations cards of farmers have been taken without their knowledge during voter registration and secured bank loans by using the Xerox copies of those documents. He also said that the bank staff involvement in this bogus loans scam could not be ruled out.

The MPP said here on Wednesday that the victims met him and complained about the fraud and submitted a memorandum seeking justice.

According to the victims, they have already taken agricultural loans. Their names have appeared in the list of farmers whose loans were waived off recently, but they insisted that they have not taken the loans. One victim, Soma Eswaramma of Cherloboyinapalle village said that it was mentioned in the list that she had taken a loan of Rs 89,000 in Konasamudram village.

In the same way, Padigi Kesava, his wife Lakshmi Devi, Padige Santaiah, Padige Ramanjaneyulu and Beeram Lakshamma of Vanampula village said that their names also were listed stating that they have taken loans, Rs 91,700, Rs 42,000, Rs 91,700, Rs 52,000 and Rs 46,000 respectively.

MPP Baisani Pratap Reddy said that he would inform the Collector about this scam. Benami loans of about Rs 6 crore would come to light if a probe was ordered against Gopavaram and Chinnakeshampalle cooperative societies, he added.
